| FIT Uganda launches Agricultural Market Information Consultative Forum |

Today, the 22nd April, 2010, the first ever Agricultural Market Information Consultative Forum was launched at the FIT Uganda Ltd offices in Kampala. FIT Uganda Ltd is a private sector business development consulting company that provides capacity building and facilitation support to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises through service providers, by working with the public and private sector to facilitate, establish and support service companies, organizations, NGOs and donors working with the MSME sector.
In July 2008, FIT Uganda Ltd launched an Agricultural Market Information called INFOTRADE with the aim of providing real time market information. Now operating for 2 years so far, FIT Uganda has gone a step ahead and set up an Agricultural Market Information Consultative Forum, which was officially launched today at FIT Uganda Ltd offices. The main objective of the consultative forum is to play an advisory role, provide guidance to the strategies and activities to improve Ag MIS in Uganda. They members are also required to help in contributing substantive expertise to the development of MIS in the country. The members were selected from the ICT, academia, private sector, government and NGO support agency sectors.
The AG MIS Consultative Forum consists of the following members;
1) Mr. Elisha Wasukira- Coordinator, Information Network on ICT in Uganda
2) Dr. Jonny Mugisha- Associate Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, Makerere University.
3) Mr. Wairagala Wakabi- Associate Consultant, PM Communications
4) Mrs. Agnes M.N Ssekiboobo- Director, Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics, Makerere University
5) Mr. Tom Kakuba-Plan for the Modernization of Agriculture, MAAIF
6) Dr. Apollo Kasharu- Senior Lecturer, Gulu University
7) Ms. Leona Barusya- FIT Uganda Ltd
8) Mr. Enoth Mbeine- FIT Uganda Ltd
9) Mr. Robert Kintu- FIT Uganda Ltd
The Consultative Forum will among other roles;
Keep under review developments in the field of agriculture that could be relevant to include in the MIS for the targeted audience e.g. farmers
To act as a link for MIS in their areas of specialization e.g. to advise INFOTRADE on ways to incorporate new techniques to reach its audience better and faster.
To develop a mechanism to support action learning and knowledge sharing with INFOTRADE and other MIS providers in the country.
Help in advising stakeholders on policy and regulatory framework regarding MIS in the country.
To encourage and oversee assimilation of providing Agricultural Market Information through private sector initiatives among various stakeholders i.e. government, NGOs, Donors etc.
Help in establishing Agricultural Market Information Service best practices, and also help in monitoring its adopt and impact.
